Take a step back in time.

Porches were essential for Southern housewives when, during the summer months, the house would become too hot for cooking or food preparation. This porch is a fancy one, with full screening and a screen door. Out beyond the porch, you see just a glimpse of the white sand that they used to cover the back yard. This prevented the red clay from being tracked into the house and was very convenient for spotting snakes at night when going out to the outhouse!

Georgia was renowned for it's pecans. The pecan grove visible beyond the porch would have been an important cash crop for the family.
